What’s the next step?
I’m a big fan of showing someone exactly what we want them to do, so we all know what’s next.
If we’re looking for another meeting, and it’s a small group, bring up your calendar. And get a date set for the follow-up meeting, or the discovery call, the technical discussion. Right then.
If you want them to subscribe to a newsletter, sign up for training, add you to their Skype contacts, whatever. Show them exactly what you want them to do.
If it’s a large group, do a screen share and walk through the steps, explaining as you go.
If it’s a small group, show your screen. Then walk through it, with confirmation that everyone’s getting it, and we’re all on the same page, and we’re all doing it.
What I’m really saying is, don’t come all this way, and do all this work, and all this thinking on their behalf. And then leave the most important part for them to figure out, or for them to remember to get around to. That’s just dumb.
Show them as much as you possibly can about what and how to do the next step.
